I won an online auction and am having trouble identifying this ?plate coral. I had it on the sand bed and it is slowly bleaching out or looks like its dieing any advice is welcome, thanks. I have moved it to a shadier area onto a rock. I've seen no tenticles at all.

It looks alive to me - I didn't see exposed skeleton. Im assuming the brown color is the plate's natural coloration. The sand bed with moderate to low light is the right location for it. Tentacles will appear when they sense food.

Have you tried feeding it? Try putting some mysis shrimp or other meaty food on top of the disk with the main pumps off, keeping shrimp, fish etc away from the food. It might take a series of attempts while it adapts. Good luck.

Agreed its still alive. My plates took some time before they got meaty.
