Cloudy water?

Yesterday my timer failed and didn't turn the lights on at all. This morning woke up to cloudy water white chalky cloud. Not sure what to make of it. The tank is 2 years old 300 gallon.

Are any animals showing signs of breathing problems? You might be seeing a bacterial bloom. If so, I'd expect it to fade on its own, but there might be oxygen deprivation problems along the way. A diatom filter or UV filter should speed the process.

Also, I'd collect a water sample and see how long it takes to settle. If there's been some calcium carbonate precipitation, that can make a white cloud, too.

All animals and coral appear normal. I will collect sample. I would expect a bloom if light got left on for an extended period but not after a lights out
