So about 2 months back I bought a Medium size Brittle Star. He doesn't come out much and I'm just curious on how you know they are eating enough? I try to spot feed him every couple days besides all of the extra food that floats around but never know if he eats enough or not

They are scavengers. He will be fine.

Chances are, he's fine. They're pretty good about getting all the loose bits of food around and with spot feeding, it's probably fairly well off.

As said above he will be fine as long as there is some food to scavenge in the sandbed.

Lol I figured that the answer would be he'll be fine but I guess it's just hard to not know. I'll keep target feeding him once in a while and hope he's fine!

Does your brittle star hang out in a rock? I've never seen mine leave his rock...he'll extend his arms to grab food from me, but that's all the movement I see out of him.

Don't feed them - they get more than enough. And as they grow (I have two that are at least 3" in diameter), they'll come out from their rocks when you feed the tank. Mine both have all 5 arms sticking out of various places, and think they're well hidden.

i have one in my 14g that's out all the time. he will climb as far up on the glass as he can and will take tiny pieces of shrimp or scallop from my finger. i have another one in my 29g and all i ever see of him is a leg once in a while.

I've had mine for 3+ years. I spot fed him when I first got him just because he was shipped with free food. I haven't spot fed him in prob over a year. He is about 12" and I never see more than a couple of legs sticking out during the day. I have caught him out in the middle of the night and he looks healthy.
