aka Bakuanseki, well this is what is written on the packet of rocks I purchased from Daiso. It suppose to clarify water and also provide minerals to fish/plants.
Problem is I can't find any info on the web!
The closest I can find is that this is some sort of calcium rock...
Now I want to use this product in my canister filter for filter media (replace the noodles).
Anyway have any idea what this stuff is? The packet doesn't mention marine but I'm guessing it won't harm anything :)

I guess my question is, if you don't know what it is and all you have on its safety in a reef tank is a guess then why? Why do you want to use this?

Without knowing what the product is, I can't say much. It might be safe enough, but when I read about it providing minerals, I get worried. Uncontrolled dosing can be a bad thing.

It seems to be a highly porous alumium silicate naturally occuring rock material used for water filtration and adding minerals to water with some use primarily in
Japan for aquariums. Not able to find any references to ref tank use.

From the description, I think it's fairly likely that the stone won't hurt anything. As far as delivering minerals, I don't think it'll be useful, because the amounts seem to be very small, but it might in theory leach something toxic. I might worry some about the alumina in it.

If it's sufficiently porous, it might function as live rock after some period of time in the tank. After it's covered with bacteria, it's unlikely to do any other type of filtration, though.
