I'm building a 40b for SPS, is one RB 120w value fixture enough or should I get two?

Thanks

one would work if it is mounted high enough and you were using 120 degree optics.

I have 16" RB over my 29g, I'd say it just barely covers it, on a 40b you will probably have somewhat noticeable dark spots on the sides. Photon 24 is cheaper then 2 of the values, its what I think I'll be putting over my 40b when upgrade the lighting. Plus the controller will be nice to have I kind of regret going value over the photon for my 29.

depends on the how high it is above the tank. generally yes it will cover 24-30 inches with no optics. unless you have coral touching the very sides of the tank then it would be fine. I have one over a 60 cube and it works perfectly.

Thanks for the advice, I was looking at the Photon 24 also.

the photn 24 would be better than one value fixture if you can swing it and the controller is very nice!

I have a used reefbreeders for a fair price. 1year old and works pretty good, I'll either sell it and upgrade or replace some of the LEDs in it for my 55g.

I think it is too blue.

Thanks for the advice I think I'm going to go with the Photon24. One more question 60, 90, 0r 120 degree optics?

The higher degree of optics the better the spread. The lower the degree smaller spread but greater / deeper penetration. For the 40b that's a fairly shallow tank. I would think 120 would be want you want.
