My QT is set up (10 gal) with 2 green chromis and a royal gramma, and 3 snails I bought from the LFS.

I also have a small LR (approx 3lbs) in there... and I am running a HOB filter.

Fish are doing well after 24 hours, are feeding fine.

Q1: Do I need to give them any medication? If so, what/why?

Q2: How long is enough - I know this is a debatable question - but I have seen everything from 5 days to 6 weeks and, well, that is quite the range.

Thanks everyone!

I recommend a minimum of six weeks. While the usual method is to use some pieces of PVC instead of rock, since it's already in there, leave it there unless (and until) you see some symptoms of disease or parasites in your fish. Once you use some kind of medication, especially copper, your rock will be useless. Your HOB filter should do the job without the rock in there. There are two schools of thought on medication. One uses the QT for observation and resorts to meds only if there are symptoms. This is the route I've chosen and it's been successful for me. The other is to use meds prophylactically and treat the fish for possible infections. Since I haven't used this method, someone else will have to comment. To sum up, I'm really glad you're following a quarantine procedure. A lot of newbies don't choose to and many get bit in the hindquarters eventually.

FWIW: the LR that is in there, came with the fish from the LFS, from the same tank.

6 weeks is a mighty long time... What a bummer!
