Just a quick picture of my new Blue Dot Squamosa.

It has a blue rim and blue dots on the mantle.

This is about a 4 inch speciman.

I am thrilled at this addition to my reef.

That is the best looking Squamosa I've seen! :eek2: Even looks like a Maxima! Are these blue-dot morphs rare?

Rare, I don't know. It was nice enough to put in my personal tank though. I have seen a few with blue rims, but not blue spots yet.

I saw mine at the LFS like three weeks ago but I had just boght a pink milli so the reef budget was running low. I past by a few days agop and to my disbelief they still had it so I took it home.

36 bucks and the are easier to keep because they require less light than maximas or croceas

mine has blue dots too, though it's *no* comparison. its the squamosa in my gallery. at the center of each of the light splotches is a turquoise-blue spot about the size of a BB. though they are essentially impossible to see in the pic. it was way prettier back when it was only a few inches.

i just picked up a new one that has lime-green dots.

Yes it is his, and I beleive he got it at an LFS after he asked them to keep on the look out for one.

I and many others consider a true blue sqiuamosa to be the Holy Grail of all clams. Hundreds of times cooler and not to mention rarer than even Teardrop Maximas.

Ru8mor has it that when an LFS in New York (maybe Ct. not sure) got one, they wanted $4,000 for it. Supposedly, it and many other nice livestock items went missing soon after, and it was supposedly the angry partner of the LFS. Their was a thread on this somewhere.

Is that blue squamosa for real? OMG that is cool. Too much money for me though! BTW that blue dot squamosa is pretty nice Rob.

acroporas clam is awesome. None of my importers or wholesalers have ever seen one like it. They then go on to say it is a photoshop deal. That is NOT my opinion.

Your blue Squamosa is awesome. If you look in Sprung's invert book quick reference there is an unreal blue clam from the Great Barrier reef. I don't remember if it is a Squamosa or Derasa though.

Acroporas Awesome clam indeed.

This is a mega clam
But at this price (4 grands)ya can fly to Solomon islands get a good hotel and a giude that will not leave an inch uncovered before he will get ya a dozen of those clams.

But really it is the best ever clam.

Let me clarify- I have NO idea what acroporas paid for his clam.

The price of $4,00 at the store could have been put there sso people would stop asking about it, im not sure really. Personally, I dont think you can put a dollar value on real blue squamosa.

i think he said he paid 20 bucks for it as a 2" baby.

Yes, the clam is real and i payed like 20 for it. I didnt ask anyone to look for one. I just went into this really low end LFS. Of course they didnt know it was rare, they didnt know what it was. They just copyed the lable from the invoice onto the tank. I have to admit that I didnt eather though. I got it because it was cheap, because they were calling it a squamosa. I thought i was just getting a maxima for a good deal:D It looked relatively healthy (now that was rare, they keep everything under NO!!) so i got it. I didnt realize for about 6 months that it really was a squamosa.

And no i wont sell it, so dont ask.

Ohh, i will add that this clam was aquacultured. It came on a pice of concrete looking rock. It was round and flat about 1.5 inched diameter and .5 inches. There was a rectangular noch in the top of it where the clam was attached I wonder if it is possible to figure out wich hatchary it came from this. I still have it i think, maby i will post a pic of it sometime if i can find it.

Some truly awesome clams guys!!

I wonder, has anyone really had a clam "color up"? I have recently seen a nice squamosa with a true blue edge of about 1/4 inch. I wonder if it would spread across the clam under MH?

FYI, I had a chance to scuba in Palau and saw a number of true blue Squamosa and Derasa. They were huge typically and very nice. It was strictly look and don't touch!!!

I do not think the 1/4 blue is going to spread across very much. It is not going to turn blue totally for sure.

Either blue from start or just blue rimmed.
