I've battled cyano.....I've battled diatoms....I've conquered green bubble.... (in a few of my tanks since I've started.)

This one stumps me....doesn't look/feel/grow like any of the common algaes

I saw little patches of this in April, on my existing LR and on a couple pieces I added. It seemed pretty benign. Over the past five months, it’s SLOWLY spreading, but it hadn’t worried me as it didn’t break out or start excessively spreading.

Now it is growing further along, in small patches on a few pieces of LR. If I were to guess, I would say it resembles the start of Red Bubble algae, but it hasn’t ever produced bubbles. It stays in the nooks and crannies of the LR.

I’m out of town for a few months, but I’m waiting for my wife to provide feedback on how it feels, how it reacts to turkey baster jets, and whether it brushes off with a tooth brush.

UPDATE:

Wife took more pics with white lights on. Spots are brown, but... (begining stages of brown hair algae?)

Like I said, these have been on the LR for months, and have been slowly spreading.

Feels slippery to the touch. It doesn't come of with gentle scrubbing. The test spot had to be virogously scrubbed with a toothbrush to finally "disappear".

Thoughts?

Are you sure it's an algae? It's hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like flat worms.

Why do you post the same question in 2 different sections?
