Lucky for me my return doesn't hold much water or else my tank could have overflown! Decided to cut my plumbing on a hunch and found 2 snails where my flexible tubing starts on my drainage.
Just wondering how do I prevent this from happening again? Is there a cap I can put on my overflow?
Strainer on the opening.... But there is no replacement for having an emergency overflow...

How do I make a strainer? I've never seen an emergency overflow. Don't know that's realistic on my 58 gallon
Buy one for your size pipe...
...I used both of factory holes in my 60. One for my durso and the other for a emergency overflow that sits an inch higher but still lower than the top of the tank.. Then I pipe my return over the back...

That's why I love my bean animal. I had a red knob starfish clog one siphon in my overflow. Luckily I have two more and didn't get a hundred gallons of water on my floor.

That looks perfect! I was gonna make a run to hd, but is that the only place you've seen this? Call me cheap but I don't want to have to pay the $8 for shipping if I don't have to for a $1 part lol

LOL! Same here.
Check your LFS, mine has them in different sizes. Lowe's also has pond supplies, and carries something similar. If not, easy enough to get a small sheet of the nylon netting used for screen doors, tack it on with a few drops of crazy glue.
