These are initial thoughts on putting together my 245 system.

Just want to run it by you guys for more insight on what I'm forgetting and where I can improve.

Thanks in advance for your info/advice.

Initial Equip/Plans/stocking for 245g Reef Tank
Equipment
1. 245gal- 72x30x26 (Great Lakes Aquarium) with center overflow drilled 3 Drains and 2 separate returns, 36” furniture grade stand (inquire about having additional end doors)
2. LED lighting system (Ecotech, Aqua Illumination,Vertex?)
3. Trigger System Ruby Elite Sump (Trigger Systems-Customize the Elite)
(consider 48 x 24 x 18-20 inches high with the fuge section being an ATO H2O holding tank with approx. 30-35 gallons of RODI)
4. Reef Dynamics Protein Skimmer INS350 model check to see footprint fits sump area
5. Dual Ehiem Compact (3000 or 5000 model) submersible pumps for returns. (redundancy)
Also check out Water Blaster pumps at Premium Aquatics
(check to see pump outlet size and what return on overflow size is)

7. Necessary plumbing parts, drain hoses, nylon tubing, clamps etc.
8. Neptune Apex Controller with lab grade pH probe.

Seems like w pretty well though through approach. Not sure how much the salinity checker is, but you may want to consider the Apex salinity module and probe instead.

I'd bag the sand-sifting star frankly, does more harm than good.

Personally, I think even a 6 foot tank is too small for a Naso Tang.

Thank you for the advice and yeah that makes sense on the salinity to let the apex take care of that.
Also thought I may be pushing a Naso in that tank. Any other tang/angel/butterfly that could take the place of the Naso and be relatively reef safe?

Yellow, powder blue, powder brown, etc. Lots of tangs to choose from that don't get as big as a naso.

I'm partial to purples myself, and as long as you introduce with the yellow or use an acclimation box you should be OK. Just make sure you really do setup a QT; and make it a 40B. I went with a 20L and it is a bit too small.
