So I have a JBJ True Temp 300W heater/controller on a 30g display & 15g sump. The heater is plugged into an Apex controller that I uses for safety (Hi & Low temp check 70 low & 85 high - the Apex turns off the outlet in these cases). So the temp swing below is the +/- 1 deg the jbj heater supports. I could use the Apex to dampen the swing, but do I care......?

Your thoughts.

Thats a pretty big swing, Mine swings btw 77 and 79.5
If everyone looks happy it probably doesnt matter. Are you running a chiller?

I do the opposite. I use the controller (reefkeeper) to control the temp to +/- .1 F, and the temperature control of the thermometer as the safety should the controller fail on. My temp is set at 79.0, so it's always 78.9, 79.0, or 79.1. You swings seem excessive to my tight tolerance, but who knows. If you corals look good, then it's probably not an issue. I'm sure there are temperature swings in nature. On the other hand, you have the option for better control with the apex, so why not use it?

From the graph, his is swinging the same (btw 77-79.5). Nothing to worry, IMO.

What he has is big range setting in the apex (70-85), which I would adjust to something smaller. Maybe 77-79 for the heater and turn off lights at 85.
