Basically some information on my tank:

5' x 2.5' x 2.5 (DT)
4' x 2' x 2' (Sump)
Over size skimmer (rated 634 gal)
two x 2642gph return pump
two x mp 40
two x radion pro
two x FR (one running rowas, very little amt, one running bio pellets)
Ref growing chaeto and red bamboo (snacks for my BT, Salfin and Yellow tangs)

after trial and error, I used to run the system with zero NO3 and zero PO4, SPS seems to like it but my LPS disagrees.
Now I have been running the system with just barely detectable levels of NO3 while keeping PO4 zero, zoas and LPS are smiling.

I have just built an upflow ATS hoping to take off the two FR with rowas and biopellets, their media can be awfully expensive

I am currently dosing for CA, MG, and DKh manually.
Am in the process of setting up a Deltec PF501 calcium reactor to keep the CA and MG in check.

Where's the upflow?

I did build an up flow ATS, however due to the fact I have bio pellets, rowas and chaeto running, my system is running undetectable nutrients. The ATS just couldn't work, I might try again, taking off the bio pellets n rowas.
Do u have success story w a system running ATS and chaeto? I need the chaeto to grow the pods for my dragonet.

Yes I've heard of a few folks doing both. Not many. Maybe because with enough seasoned rock, there will be enough pods on it.

Some pods in ref can thrive with just live rocks and without Chaeto?
I really wish to setup the up flow ats n take my bio pellets n rowas offline

Yes pods live on the periphyton which covers the rock.
