Hello all,

I have a Fluval Edge 6 gallon. I am trying to make it as sleek as possible and want to know if I need to have a HOB filter?

I have a sand base and two 240 powerheads on either side of the tank the cycle using the "Hydor Smart Wave Circulation Pump Controller, up to 100w per channel" so I have great random flow. If I am doing weekly 25-50% water changes, do I need to have the stock filter?

Thank you,
Eric

I don't have a filter on my 10g, but I do turkey baste the rock daily and vacuum detritus weekly during water changes.

A small power filter can only help, IMO, but as gbru316 stated, if you can keep up on if you can go without.

Ok, thank you both. I was looking around and saw a cool mod that attached a external canister using flexible hoses. It would add a gallon and also increase my filtration. Right now I am battling red slime. it is driving me crazy. I went commercial fishing over the summer and my tank was somewhat neglected, now i'm trying to play catch up.
