Just picked up a quarter size RBTA I fed it frozen red blood worm and it seems to chow it down like there's no tomorrow. Do they actually need light or food suffice?

You should research anything you put in your tank before buying. That is the first rule that everyone should do.

They can eat but they need light and a mature tank to thrive in our home aquariums. They need a lot of light too...

Research, research, then again, research...

They will need a good deal of light. I would recommend you do some reading. Here is a start:

I would have thought Drew Brees knew a little about preparation with all the game-plans and what not. Still 5-0 where it counts.

Lol!

OP - take a look in your other thread regarding color and I posted this same image there. They need light and food. Sometimes clowns who host will feed it but I still feed mine directly at least once a week. Fully expanded these guys get over 12" easy and leave no room in my 29 gallon bio cube.

LED lights 10/10 mix white/royal blue. Cree's with Mean Well power source. I tried to move one to another cube but I didn't want to damage the foot so it is staying put. There are 3 in there now over the course of 2 years, maybe 2 1/2...from 1.

Give it as much light as you can along with good water parameters. good luck
