I know technically this isn't really a reef fish, just wondering what everyone's thoughts and more importantly experiences with this fish in a reef are. I'm thinking of adding one to mine. I have no shrimp and just a few crabs/snails which I realize may get eaten. For corals I have LPS and softies, no clams. Any help would be appreciated.

How large is your tank and what are the current inhabitants? Like most triggers, Nigers are unpredictable. You could get one that is a model citizen or you could get an unholy terror.

For what it's worth, my niger trigger liked to eat the yellow half off of yellow tailed blue damsels. I had 9 of them in with him for over a year and one day he just turned on them. He only ate the yellow half...

I have had about 11 years worth of Niger Triggers (2 different ones). Slow growing, get more aggressive with age, beautiful inexpensive fish, when I've had corals they never bother them. Wonderful fish in the right system, but they are still Triggers, my first one nearly killed a 5 inch Maroon Clown he coexisted with for 4 years previously, just turned on him one day, had to remove the Clown.
