My new Teardrop

Hi, I wanted to share to everyone my new Teardrop. Picked him up about 25 days ago. :)

Hi, thanks everyone. He is about 5 inches and I am not sure where he is from. I got him from a LFS here. I will take a few more this weekend and post them.

He is on half sand and half rock. I set the foot of him on rock so he could attach.

Tear Drop Maxima's are extremely difficult to keep. Yours was not attached to anything when you purchased it, correct? It was most likely torn off the rock where it was was collected (Vietnam). Teardrops sold from Vietnam often has very poor survival rates, and the majority die off within a few weeks/months. Even when they are from the solomon islands, they can still be difficult to keep.

Clam is VERY responsive.... GOOD sign...
Clam is breathing normally.. GOOD
Clam mantle is fully extended... GOOD
Foot has left first bysal strands.... GOOD
Stil attaching... GOOD....

So basically it's doing great..... I'm crossing fingers on this one... The clam seems to be doing well.. I'm very excited...

Will there foot ever grow back? How can I tell if it is gone. When I flip him over there is a white patch at the bottom of him.

I should take a pic of the bottom of him. Sorry I havent been able to get any more pictures. I am going away for laborday weekend and will be home the whole next week with the newest addition to my family, my 10lb 5oz 23inches long baby boy! :beer:

Congratulations on the newest addition!

If the clam has been in your tank for 4 weeks, I would have expected it to attach to some rock or rubble by now.

The byssal strands will grow back but the byssal gland will not. Usually the gland is what gets torn. It usually takes a few weeks at the most for the clam to anchor itself down to the rockwork. As traveller7 stated, I should have attached by now.

Isn't it true that some larger clams will not attach? I read that somewhere. They depend on the weight to keep them in place.
