Need to know if I've got a major problem waiting to happen here, some of my friends suggested I need to do something about this or tank will eventually crack or something. I had a 2'x2' stand that I had built for another project a few months ago that I didn't end up using it for. I recently got a 75g tank that I just setup a few weeks ago and I figured i could use this stand for it not thinking that if it extend out on each side a bit would be a big deal but apparently my friends say it is. What is everyone's opinion? Here is a pic:

If this is no good, besides building another stand and for it the proper way, how could i add additional support to it without having to drain and take everything out?

OMG, amazing it’s holding water this is an accident waiting to happen. Adding additional support at this time would be very difficult. I would drain the tank ASAP and build a proper stand.

Danger, Will Robinson!!!!!

Got to support the full perimeter of the tank. Best thing would be to build a properly sized stand, drain, move and refill. If you must cobble something together then I suppose you could build a couple of end pieces, make them a tiny bit shorter than the middle section, and then use shims to raise them up to make contact with the overhanging ends of the tank. You could then screw each end to the middle section.

I would also put a straightedge against the tank bottom to see if the ends are deflecting downwards or not. If they are, then I see no real alternative to draining the tank.

Crazy, man!

I'm scared just looking at it. Please keep anyone or anything you love away from it. It should be drained immediately. Build a proper stand and try again.

I wouldn't have a big problem with it (from what we can see)... if it were 2' longer. Otherwise the design looks OK. As is, it's an accident waiting for it's moment!

Guys, i know it looks worse in the picture than it actually is and I'm sure everyone has had a good laugh. It may seem that is is ready to tip over on either side but its actually solid and does not move one bit anywhere. I know that does not excuse it one bit, and I'm gonna drain and replace it with a proper stand. My concern is not that it will tip over but the integrity of the tank on each end where there is no support.

I don't think it will tip over either, and the construction looks plenty good enough. The problem is, without support on all 4 corners, it WILL fail. It's just a question of how soon, and how catastrophic it will be when it goes.

Understood, and that is what i wanted to find out and will correct the problem. Thanks.

Now i can have my mind at ease at least for this thing anyways :D

I'm no rocket scientist, but that stand looks MUCH safer!

Nice job with the new stand. You didn't ask, but I think I like the aquascaping in the first picture better. Good luck with your tank.

Thanks. This tank is more of a holding tank than anything else, didn't really give any thought to aquascaping.

You went from a disaster waiting to happen to a well built stand...even overbuilt :). Good job on the new stand, you built it right.

How long was that original setup like that? It is more fascinating than funny ;)

Yeesh. All the weight of the tank is on that little plastic rim...are you a daredevil in your spare time? :eek1: Glad you got a proper stand under it!
