I have a beautiful pair of Harley's I got to eat my zoa-sucking asterina plauge, which they did (yay Harley's!). Now it's time to figure out their regular feeding shedule. Last week I gave them a whole sand-sifting star, which they ate greedily. Sand sifters are the only ones I can get locally (in a rural area that means 60 miles away). So the time and expense can really add up if I feed them more than I need to.
Any advice?

get a species only tank, order some chocolate chip stars offline, id say about 4-7 and switch off a leg a day or every other day on the stars, and alternate them. I have no experience with them but that's what ive read from a lot of people on here do, and my lfs does as well when he gets them in stock.

I had one, and I would feed him a chocolate chip starfish every two weeks. On accident, when I had him in my sump and kind of forgot about him, he went about three weeks without one and was fine.

I know it's feeding time when they start prancing about the tank in search of a meal. I feed mine a star every 3 weeks or so.

Good to know! And here's a really dumb question. If I throw a cc star in the sump, he'll be ok in the dark?

Thank you for your reply to the dumbest question ever asked in the history of reefing :)

The wife has had a pair for a year now, and feeds them a leg every 3-6 days. She keeps the cc stars in a sump and pulls one out, removes leg and freezes the star. The shrimp know the difference instantly with frozen over fresh and come out of the cave prancing for fresh, quite funny. The rest of the star is fed frozen over the next couple weeks and the shrimp have been healthy this way for some time now. Cool animals.

Thanks, three chamber 55g sump, two outers are fed from tank, one is skimmer section, other is fuge. Middle is return after bubble traps. No chance for any issues in fuge, but thanks.
