LED Strip light placement

I have a 29 gallon setup that currently has a 2 bulb T5HO fixture attached to a wood canopy (see sketch). I would like to add (2) 12" LED strip lights along side the T5HO, but not sure about the placement. My concern is the heat from the T5HO if the LED strips are too close and the back part of the canopy gets a lot of salt creep because of the skimmer and filter. Any ideas on how I should mount these? Maybe install in the front and angle toward the back?
