I was just thinking it would be fun to have a molecule of the month thread. The thread would highlight a molecule each month and how it relates in the reef aquarium. Molecules could be as simple as cationic Calcium to as complex as Green Fluorescent Protein. I'm sure with all the chemist and biochemist lurking around reefcentral we could get some good articles written up.
Lists of possible molecules/ions that could be explored:
Ca(OH)2
H20
Ca 2+
Cl-
Na+
PO4 3-
NO3-
NO2-
Mg2+
K+
CaCO3
chorophyll a/b
CFP
RFP
GFP
chromoprotein
O2
CO2
H2S
CO3 2-
H+
others...feel free to add to the list...these were just off the top of my head
I know some of these have detailed articles already published here on RC and in advance aquarist magazine, but to have all these articles in one place could be an invaluable resource.
