I would turn it into a sump replace the 20 add more water volume

I would also turn it in to a sump and add more volume as NastyZ says

I thought about that to but I was wondering about turning it into a frag tank some how or I guess I could make it a sump and a frag tank in one what do you think about that

If you tied it into your system it would increase the water volume and you could use it as a frag tank. Two birds one stone.

Yea thats kind of what I was getting at in the beginning I'm just not sure how I would plumb it into my system since there is only one hole drilled I would need to make a overflow box but not sure how I would get the water to and from the tank. I don't have much plumbing experience haha

Convert the 20 into a frag tank or refugium. Use the 40 for a sump.

But wouldn't the 40 be better to turn into the frag tank or refugium since it is already drilled

Search the u-tube for videos on how to drill a sump. It's really easy, just go slow, and use a drill with a variable speed setting. Or you can find out if your LFS will do it for you. Mine charges $5 a hole.

I would think your 40 is better as a sump so that you can have more water handling capacity for back flow when your return pump is off (during maintenance or power outage, etc). You'll need extra capacity to account for the frag tank also if your goal is to plumb it in the same system.
