View Full Version : Identification help - long dark stick looking thing

I've seen a couple of these now in my tank. They look like a long perfectly straight tiny brown stick. They are not vermetid snails I'm pretty sure because I have vermetids and they grow kind of curved. These are like over an inch long too and they grow horizontally, not up like vermetids. In the picture look at the thing laying on the white epoxy putty spot. Also look to the bottom left of that one, if you look carefully you can see a second:

Shed urchin spines?

That's what I thought it kind of looks like but I didn't think I had sea urchins, of course there is a lot of life in these live rocks, how big would they be? That's a pretty long spine for a sea urchin I've never seen.

Is your sand used? I'm not sure how to explain how they got there...

No, I got the sand brand new weeks after I had the live rock in. Got the live rock from someone else that used to have a big tank.
