I'm considering buying a new protein skimmer.
Ideas?
90g, reef tank.
Will not be overstocked, but for the purposes of choosing, I want a protein skimmer that can handle being over stocked.
I have about 12in x 12in in space
7 in water depth
24in high
This is for a new tank build, so there is currently no fish, livestock, etc.

Optimum water depth as per spec's is 8" to 9 1/2".

What about http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/reef-octopus-diablo-dcs150-in-sump-protein-skimmer.html
Or

I'm sure I can get the 13" width to fit. Just wanted a little bit more room in the sump. The main source of filtration in my sump is the protein skimmer though, so
Max height for water I can get in the sump is 8 in, so the first one I posted would be at its minimum I guess?

You might want to take a look at an Aquamaxx EM200 (http://www.marinedepot.com/AquaMaxx_ConeS_In_Sump_Protein_Skimmer_In_Sump_Venturi_Needle_Wheel_Protein_Skimmers-AquaMaxx-UJ00154-FIPSISNW-vi.html). You are running into the same issue though with such a shallow sump. It will be close.

how about the avast marine cs1? Its can be run in recirculating mode where water level doesnt matter. No personal experience, I just started looking into them but havent seen any bad things yet. And they offer a DIY kit to save some money.

Between these two, my vote would be for the DCS150 for your system. You could build a small platform if necessary.
