View Full Version : In sump mechanical filtration

My sump is set up drain -> bubble trap -> return -> fuge with the fuge being fed off the return pump (dual loc-line with one aimed for surface agitation). I have low flow through the fuge for contact time with a small powerhead in there for flow.

The problem is that there is a lot of "junk" settling in the fuge (with chaeto and a half dozen pieces of live rock) which I vacuum out during water changes. I feel that there is too much junk and also feel that I am removing too many pods with the vacuum.

This brings me to the filtration. Due to lack of foresight I cannot access my drain line without removing the skimmer, therefor a sock that has to be changed every couple days wont work. Filter floss between the baffles would be a good idea although as it becomes clogged the water level in the skimmer section will rise affecting skimmer.

Any ideas? I'm sure others have the same situation and have thought of something.
