Return Noise Help

I have my standard 90g RR setup with a Herbie overflow. In doing so I routed my return over the back of the tank. I'm not sure if I need to dial back my return pump but it creates a sort of undertow and a jetting sound of water. I don't have my hood on the tank yet and I'm sure it will quiet it down but it's just a little annoying. Any ideas of how to reduce this noise?
