Hi RCers,

This is my setup for my newly DIY HOB refugium:

Basically, I tried with a MJ 600 pump after a MJ1200 was too strong, and the drainage couldn't keep up with the flow coming into the refugium. I placed the MJ inside of my tank, I even installed a ball valve to reduce water being pumped in (you can see in http://tampany.com/images/temp/IMG_4405.JPG to the right), but at the other end (in pic http://tampany.com/images/temp/IMG_4405.JPG to the left) the drainage is so tiny that can't keep up and the refugium overflows. I also tried building a 1in overflow PVC system (from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DFk4bnIxEg) but the drainage flow is also tiny compare o what's going in.

Any ideas or alternatives?

Drain always needs to be bigger than input, if you used valve to control the flow of the water you should be fine and water flowing through refugium should be slower IMO...
