Currently battling cyano.
Going to clean out the fuge this weekend, it's a mess in there.
This cyano stuff is relentless.
Comments?

My local Petco's tanks are actually cleaner than mine, which is sad. :(

Wow, lol!!
Don't worry, just keep on top of it and don't give up. Many of us have been in the same spot as you.

Is that your only powerhead in the tank? If so, you'll probably want more flow in your tank.

How new is the tank? I see some high maintenance corals in there.

I'll offer some advice, get rid of the Xenia unless you want it to overrun your tank. I made the mistake of putting that in my tank and I'm still trying to get rid of the stuff. That stuff is relentless. As far as the cyan, just keep up with water changes and try to siphon out as much of it as you can, end eventually it will balance out.

That PH is giving me 25X water movement.
I actually have pointed it a bit into the rocks to slow down the turbulence.
The PH 25X plus the return's 10X was causing a bit too much flow for my liking.

Closing in on 4 months.
The sun and yellow colony polyps are heavy eaters, but everything else is not too bad.
The frogspawn has tripled in size since I got it.

I didn't know that about Xenia when i bought it.
Was about the size of a quarter when i got it, thinking of putting a frag of it in my biocube.
I like how it looks.
May move it to the fuge if it gets out of hand.

Thanks for the cyano advice, that's what i've been doing, siphon and water changes.
Going to clean out the fuge this weekend, hopefully that helps.

The good old days, before cyano

It's not a matter of "If" it's "when", because the stuff will get out of hand. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful coral and I love the looks of it, but after a prolonged period of time the stuff does get out of hand, and it's a pain to get rid of.

This is how mine looks in my tank 3 months after I cut it all out. I swear I'm not exaggerating at all. And I'm not trying to discourage you from having it in your tank, if thats what you want. I'm just telling you what I wish someone would have told me.

I'm upgrading to a 150 gallon within the next couple of months, and all of my rock with Xenia on it won't be getting transferred to my new tank.

The cyano doesn't look that bad IMO, I've seen waaaay worse. 4 months in - sounds normal. Just keep doing your maintenance and you should be good.

The suncorals need food - the regular yellow polyps don't - although they will eat, there's no real reason to feed them directly.

All in all - looks pretty good to me.

More flow and GFO.
Left side aquascape looks great, but the right side is a little messy imo

More flow would be great, gfo and some carbon. I hope you're also using RO water.

I would also recommend syphoning it out with your water changes... Of course lots of water changes AND what has been suggested already (flow, gfo, etc) Maybe shortening your light cycle a bit.
In my experience cyano comes and goes with good upkeep.

Have about 20X flow and I use rodi water.
Cut full lights way down to 4 hours.
Doing regular water changes.
Nothing seems to make a difference.
I'll have to try gfo or carbon next.

Just keep at it with the water changes. You will get it in check. It iust takes time and patience. Like said above, its normal for it to come and go on a new system. Eventually you will get it ballanced out.
