I had glass tops on mine and I took them off. No
T sure if that was a good idea or not?

AI sol Blue.

Sounds like a great set up! +1 on ditching the glass top. My only advice is too be vveeeeerrrrryyyyy careful with the AI SOL's. I'm currently ramping mine to max:
White - 20%
Blue - 30%
Royal - 40%
Not to say these settings will work for you, but just a word of caution.

The intensity is going to depend upon how high above the tank you mount the light and what types of corals you want to keep. I have mine 12" above the waterline and run them at 95%. My PAR values run from 150 at the bottom of the tank to 650 at the top of the rock.

Thegrun,
I assume you are running AI SOLS as well? How deep is your tank? I run mine about 10 off the water line. Also are you running the 40 or 70 lenses?

I actually switched to the Vegas a year ago, but I ran SOL Blues for two years prior to that. My tank is 24" x 24" x 20" tall. The SOL Blue had a mix of 70 and 40 degree lenses.

You need a quarantine tank and the determination to always use it.

I'd get 2 WP25 instead of the koralias or 2x-MP40 if you have the funds.

And +1000 on the QT equipments

Skip on the glass lids, creep will cover it and this allows for heat to escape.

I am not sure you need a mag 7 to mix salt--perhaps just a cheap powerhead would be enough.

Also, what about live/dry sand/rock?

ditch the glass lid and make a screen top. can pick up window screen frame, corners, spline and spline roller tool at your local hardware store for cheap. for the screen, look for 1/4-1/2 inch clear netting such as THIS (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/clear-netting.html)

Also, I'd pass on the mag7 as a mixing/water change pump and get a marineland maxijet 1200. I use the maxijet 400 to mix my sw and it works fantastic. other than that, looks good to me

another 40 lbs of live rock sound great :D but that's me for rock scape, depending on what fish you have for swimming area, but I like more area to add corals.

Thanks for all the replies and tips. I have changed my mind on the glass lid and will be doing screen only.

The Mag 7 pump for slat mixing is also for water changes. the new water will be in the garage and will need to drive the water 3 feet in head height and about 20' in distance.

For QT I was thinking a 10 gallon tank from Petco when they do their next $1/gallon sale. A deep blue sponge filter and 100w heater.

Get the BRS DIY screen. And it's better to get the 20 or 3o gallon QT (just in case you get a tang or other larger fish)
