hey there!

i have 3 baffles in my sump, all of them do not reach the water level. now my drain goes into that section and i get microbubbles. also, the liverock i have down there gets exposed to light. now i want to add a black acrylic baffle to extend the height of the first glass baffle. this should block light and keep micro bubbles in the so created first section.

if i glue the acrylic one next to the glass one, will this work?

thanks in advance, martin

2 potential problems-

First, acrylic expands in water, so if you use an acrylic baffle, you need to allow room for expansion; if you have it wedged tightly between the walls of your sump, you run the risk of it expanding and the resulting stress causing failure of your sump.

Second, silicone does not bond well long term to acrylic. For a sump this is generally not a critical issue; you just need to make sure the baffle is 'wedged' into place with silicone (i.e. have silicone fillets on both sides of the baffle, and underneath, if it doesn't extend all the way to the bottom.) Otherwise, it will eventually move out of place
