That's been there for awhile now and even at the sale price it's to much money. One sold near me for 1500 the same time this one went up for sale.

Coming from Japan, their price in naturally very high. I don't believe that they're an especially rare or a deep water fish. That said, I dove a lot when I lived in Japan and never saw one.

If I had excess $$ I would buy it in a heartbeat. IMO, It is one of the most beautiful fish.

A little over my head. Will these survive in our tropical aquariums? DD says up to 75 degrees. I know the waters off Japan are far from tropical.

They range from the Izu Peninsula down to Osagawara and Okinawa. Okinawa waters are very tropical with great coral reefs. My guess is that they're more common towards their northern range.

Generally small ones are only found off Izu which is a long haul from what i can remember. I had a few a long time ago (1" and 1.5") they are pretty awesome.

The bigger ones (they get BIG) are much cheaper than their tiny counterparts as babies are rather rare even in the wild.

Coupled with only ranging off Japan and then shipping from Japan = very expensive fish !

If i ever set up a tank, I will definitely try and track down some baby wroughts. They were by far the coolest butterfly i have ever had the pleasure of working with. (now if I could only get pyramids that small!)
