What are your thoughts on having a sand bed in a refugium? i have heard opinions on both and i think i am going to go with not having one, but i would like to hear opinions before i set it up.

thanks,
nick

Having a sand bed in your fuge gives more help with the bacterial process of our tanks. Some live sand a pice or 2 of LR some chaeto and some CUC. It's extra help to keeping your parameters in check.

I prefer bare bottom, it makes it easier to keep clean. If you have enough vertical height to go with a deep sand bed (4" minimum) I would consider doing it, but for a shallow sand bed I don't see enough of a benefit to outweigh the maintenance issues.

Ya i think im going to just do a no sand bed... but i never thought of a CUC in there.. i will throw a few hermits in there or a sally lightfoot or something.

I have a shallow sandbed so my macros have somewhere to root.

i was thinking of just putting in some live rock rubble vs sand.
