just bought a nice sized purple monti and it wasn't mounted to anything and was wondering how I can get it to attach or mount to a piece of live. it seems to be just a large piece of coral that is plating on nothing. not really sure about it

Epoxy putty works good, forms to the shape of both the coral and rock underneath it. A little superglue on both ends of the epoxy blob helps too, to add some strength to the bond between the epoxy/liverock and epoxy/coral.

i can't really pull my rock work out and let it dry to glue it though. will it not attach to a rock on its own?

It will attach on its own if it can grow onto it, I just assumed as you said its a good sized piece that you would want to attach it from below where there's no new growth. If you can put it next to a rock it can touch, that'll work if you can hold it there for a little while till it grows.

Reefing epoxy, or some plumbing epoxy, cures just fine under water, no need to remove to glue.

I've been using this stuff (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/two-little-fishies-aquastik-underwater-epoxy-putty.html) and haven't had any problems. Some people report using plumbers' putty from Home Depot. I think it's called Aquamend or something along those lines.

Just make sure when you press it into place, go easy, because you can break it. If that happens, don't panic, just leave the pieces there and they will grow into eachother and will be as one again. As me how I know?!?!?! ;)

you can wedge it between 2 rocks...then it will incrust!
