I want to drill a 55 gallon tank, the glass is not tempered. I have everything planned out for a 750 gph Herbie overflow, I just am curious if your return hole needs to be smaller than your drain? I want to install 1 inch bulkheads for the overflow, could I use a 1 inch bulkhead for the return line too?

Yes, you can and you will have better flow than with a 3/4" line.
Are you drilling the back or the bottom?

I'm drilling the back, I got the drain holes out of the way, went smoothly enough--Are there any advantages to using a 3/4 return as opposed to a 1 inch?
