Good idea bad idea? Clown tang and sohal tang in 300 gallon 72x36x27 other tangs currently in tank are 4 inch spotted cheek tang 5 inch desjardini sailfin and 8 inch blonde naso. Will probably also get 3 yellow tags. This would make up my entire stock list plus a snow flake clown. Purchase size for clown and sohal both 2-3 inches same goes for yellow tangs.

I'm sure it's been done but I wouldn't try it. I'd imagine the Sohal would rule the tank

Bad idea. Sohal's recommended minimum is a 10' long tank on the RC guide. Clowns are quite aggressive. The Sailfin and Naso have a recommended minimum of an 8' long tank.

LOL. I asked this question awhile back also. I think both these fish are so beautiful. Definitely 2 of my favorites. Well I was able to get both fish at the best deals ever. Paid $45 for my sohal and $20 for my clown tang. My tank is only 240 gallons but my measurements are 60x36x25(its custom made). Most people I asked recommended not to do this but I didn't listen. I had to have both. Well for the first 6 months they got along great. Then all of a sudden when I was feeding my sohal kept attacking my clown without reason. This went on for 3 days straight. I caught the sohal and put him on timeout(the sump) for 2 weeks. I placed him back into the display tank and he was the perfect model citizen but then the clown started to attack him and it was on again. To keep the peace I went out and bought a 265 gallon tank and put my sohal in there where he is alive and well and king of his tank

original purchase size was approx. 2-3 inches for the sohal while the clown was approx. 4-5 inches. You wouldn't believe the price I paid for them

Purples, Achiles, Sohal... there are a lot of Tangs which have a frequently undeserved bad rep just like Rottweiller's which are usually the safest dogs to have around small children I've ever seen.

My Purple is one of nine Tangs of various species in my 450. He's ignored by most others, pals with a Scopas and usually swims away when the Yellow gets anywhere him.

But in your case; Too small a tank!

Yep. None of the OP's suggested fish will do well long term in a 6' tank. Putting them all in is just begging for disaster.

It's not possible to forecast fish personalities, you'll just need to give it a shot. Most likely it will be fine. I've never had a long term tang dispute by mixing conspecifics, but anything can happen if you get a certain personality mix. If there is a problem, trade one of them with a fellow reefer.

I disagree that it's too small of a tank. But it's just a matter of opinion.

adding them small and the same time is your best bet but be prepared to remove one down the road if they don'y get along.

I wouldn't do it . The tank size is questionable ( some will say it's too small but others won't agree ). What most can agree with, however, is that both tangs are aggressive and won't do well with other aggressive specimen . It's a matter of time.
