has anyone built a lighting system with red LED's that can be mounted to the outside of the glass in the middle chamber of a biocube.
I'm thinking of building something that is like santamonicas Hog1 light on the outside, but that light would be permanent and then have a waterfall scrubber in the middle chamber of the back of the biocube.

my questions are.
1.) what do I secure the "box" that contains the LEDS on the outside onto the back glass with? Silicone?
2.) does this box need venting to get rid of heat? And if so, does the venting spill red light out?
3.) would it be better to make the screen as far away from the back glass as possible? Ive heard that the HOG 1 is so powerful it burns the algae on the screen sometimes.
4.) what would my parts list be?
im thinking 3x 3w red leds, some sort of heatsink, the outside case, and a driver. Ive never made a light system before, but I figured this small project might get me going.
thanks,
Justin
