I have six juvenile orange spot filefish in my sps tank along with a sea apple and Duncan coral. Would an emperor angelfish harass my filefishes and eat my corals and sea apple? I heard that they target brain corals in particular so I want to know if it's safe to get an angel. Thanks!

I wouldn't risk it at all - that sea apple would be my biggest concern & poison your tank if harassed enough. My emp chased every tankmate available.

Emperor angels are one of the least reef-safe angels and may eat any corals possible with no prediction. It is also on the top of aggression levels for angelfish.

You should go for a geniacanthus angel instead.

Not the greatest photo, but mine has been in one of my 250's for 4 months now without any problems

This will likely change when he grows into an 8" destructive adult. But of course, every fish is different, and you may luck out.

my emperor eats off my carpet anemone every night his face is green. he is very well fed too.

so far he is behaving well with duncans and sps he is 6-7" right now.

to OP no on sea apple..

My juv. Emperor was a model citizen until one day he decided to go buck wild on the craziest rainbow Acan colony that I'd ever seen in my life. On a side note he seemed to really enjoy his $300 snack.

They seem to wake up one day and have a brainstorm. At which any coral could be at risk. Sea Apples for sure would indicate no angels.

And as everyone else says lose the seaapple before it nukes the tank

I released it back into its natural habitat where I found it. They are native to Singapore

Good move. Did you collect the filefish yourself? Any pics of them?

The sea apple. Beyond their reputation as potential tank wiper outers, they are very hard to feed and can shrink and wither over many months before dying. In general, they should not be kept in aquaria. Probably in the same category as many non-photosynthetic gorgonians but I'm just guessing.

Apologies for the poor quality. I took this video of them about a week ago while still training them to take frozen food.

Yes 'it' refers to the sea apple lol. The filefish lives on reefs which are not on the mainland as far as I know, so I had to purchase them.
