I found an old 150 predrilled tank I will start my next reef tank with. I'm debating on redoing the silicone to prevent problems in the future... Thoughts? Any help is appreciated.

The downside of re-sealing is some time and effort. The risk of not doing it is having a seal fail, damaging your home and destroying your livestock.

For the amount of time it will take to break down the hole tank and remove all the old silicone and replace it. It will cost less to purchase a new tank.

If it's not leaking and appears ok why would you want to "fix" it? My 150 was over 10years old when I put it into storage in the garage for 7 or so years. Used it to store rakes and shovels. When it was time to set it back up I leak tested it, rinsed it, and put it in service. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

+1 to billdogg. If the silicone looks good(ie not thin, falling off, etc), then why fix it? I would just leak test it for a week and go from there.

I just resealed a 110 gallon. Just used some razor blades to remove the silicone along the seams washed the glass thoroughly with vinegar then put a fresh bead of silicone and let it dry. No leaks. Took longer to remove the old stuff than to put new stuff on.
