Picking up a 110 tall tomorrow off craigslist that I want to put a puffer in. I've always wanted one and the small saltwater tank I have isn'tbig enough for one. My question is about what filter to run. Should I have it drilled and go that route or will an over the back work or maybe a canister. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Skip the canister filter for they're notoriously known to be nitrate factories. I'd go with what most folks use - a protein skimmer.

Sadly you won't be able to have inverts for they prey on them.

110g tanks can be drilled on the side or back, I've done a couple. If you can do that and put a sump to it with return pump, that'd be a nice option. Canister filters aren't necessary where you have sufficient live rock - I've never used one, maybe someone else can chime in on that. Protein skimmer should be used in the sump if there are not refugiums, but you can get by without one with frequent routine water changes.
