I have an acrylic tank that was set up for freshwater that I am converting to a reef. Right at the end of it's time as freshwater I had an explosion of algae that pretty much covered every inch of the tank. My acrylic safe mag float wouldn't scrape anything off and actually left some scratches. Right now I am thinking about filling the tank with a reasonably strong vinegar solution and seeing if that makes it easier to clean off. Any suggestions for safely removing these algae spots would be much appreciated.

Why not just drain the tank and sponge clean it? the rough side of a kitchen sponge shouldn't scratch up the acrylic, and it should pull off any algae.

Not sure with acrylic, but I used veniger to clean my tank before and algae comes off just by touching it, also it was a glass aquarium
