Hi All. My 90 Gallon finished cycling a few months ago and I'm finally getting around to transferring the inhabitants from their 30 gallon tank. Before I do that though, I'd like to get some suggestions on making my rockwork more presentable. I don't have a whole lot of coral yet so I'd like the rockwork to start off looking nice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First, try to get/keep the rockwork off the side panes of glass. This will help when it comes to cleaning the glass. What I did with my rock was any pieces that were long and sorta wide, I had them laying on their shorter sides to kinda stand them up. Like laying a red brick on the narrow side. Spread those apart on the bottom and then put pieces on top, but between the bottom two pieces to make caves. Then just stack and try to make more holes for fish to swim through.

Basically there aren't a lot of rules except don't pack the rocks like brick as you want a lot of flow through them. The other thing is that you want the rocks to be somewhat lower in the front and gradually get higher as you move to the back of the tank so that you have more room to place corals.

I couldn't send a picture of my 90 gallon for some reason so here's a youtube link to it... i do a full screen shot at the end so pause it at that time.

there's a few ideas.

if i could give you a tip if you don't mind taking it, don't be afraid to smash a larger rock in half. you will be surprised with the results, it usually always comes out good lol. also, don't beafraid to use epoxy if you're going to do something abstract!!

I hope i could help

is it answering your question though, is there something that you still aren't't sure of?

Zack, I looked at your video again. Is your overflow in the left corner? Mine is right about at the 5:3 mark on the left side so I would have to make my larger structure on the right with the smaller island on the left. Other than that, I really like the way yours is laid out. I also think I have too much rock and will likely remove some when I re-scape it tomorrow.

Here's my 90g. I have a lot of rock and many now like the minimalist look, so this ain't that, but it works for me and the fish love the caves. I wish I had not put the rocks so close to the sides though - makes it tough to clean the glass. You could make some bridges with the rock to create caves or areas where fish can swim through - other than that, it's looking pretty good.

Well here's the result after the first round of re-scaping. I left about half of the rock out.
