I decided to try the Reef-Nutrition Compact Culture System (kit) when I ordered my latest Rotifers and RGComplete. This thing looks simple but genius.

I hope it helps, looks like it should!

NOTE: I am not affiliated with Reef-Nutrition or compensated for this statement, just thought I'd pass this along in the event anyone is considering it. I used my own bucket and it fit like a charm!

That's what I'm using.

I can't compare it to any other method because this is the only way I have tried.

I tried it and didn't like it. Actually threw it out. It was a hassle to take off the TBar everyday to clean it. I couldn't fit my measuring up into the bucket anymore and the culture kept foaming up. Maybe there is just a learning curve associated with it, but it was not for me. I like my old way of doing it :)

NOTE: I am not affiliated with Reef-Nutrition either ;)

My culture keeps foaming too. Is that because of the kit?

I think it is because the kit uses an air stone and it produce bubbles that are very fine this creating foam. It will probably work for you better if you remove the white air stone. I use just a hard line with my normals rot culture and the only time I ever get foam is when I go away and or forget to dose the rots, or if my bubbler gets turned up some how.

I had the CCS on one bucket, and didn't have one on the other. I noticed that the bucket without the CCS got dirtier a lot quicker. I also didn't mind the foaming as much since it reminded me to feed RGComplete (it somehow acts to lessen the foam). I also found that I didn't have to clean the t-bar everyday, just every few days, and production was still high enough to meet the demand of the fry. I now have two buckets both outfitted with the CCS. To harvest the rotifers, I found a plastic pitcher from the dollar store that fits in between the side of the bucket and the center bar of the CCS, so no issues there.

I did read this apart but I was wondering if there was more info from the people from this forum! Like
1-Can I put the rotifer to the reeftank (SPS) str from the CCS?
2- it's save to put water with RGcomplete to the reeftank?
3-how much AIR should I supply to the CCS?
4-what's the reason to change 30% of the water? it's because the ammonia or to keep the numbers down?
5-howuch food (RGcomplete) 11mil per 1mill per day?! I was doing this 22mil per 2 mill at day.!!
That's a lot of algae !! I'm going to be broke if I keep doing this:lmao:

Sorry I know it's a lot of questions but I never try this I just kill about 4 millions of rotifer that I order from reeariculture. I can't keep them from more than a week:headwallblue:

Answering questions is our forte :) You'll find no better source of info than from our Technical Support Team.

1. yes, strain them first though - see #2 as to why

2. no, the water will have elevated nutrient levels... not advisable to put into your reef tank

3. Amount of air is listed in the instructions: Air flow: Minimum 1.5 - 2 LPM (a good pump that meets that requirement is the Tetra whisper)

4. To keep the rotifers young. Old rotifers do not produce eggs thus kill culture counts over time. By harvesting 20-30% you will keep the culture statistically young. The ammonia control is dealt with via RGComplete.

5. yes, 11 ml of RGcomplete per 1 million rotifers, harvested, not what you are culturing. If you pull out 1 million rotifers in a harvest and you are doing a 30% daily change, you should have ~3,333,333 rotifers in the culture. If you don't need to harvest that many, cut back on feeding and your count will self adjust over time. For a 5 million rotifer culture, and harvesting 30% a day, you'll be harvesting 1.5 million and feeding 16.5 ml of RGcomplete.

If you see bubbles collecting and hanging on the surface of the culture, you're over feeding. If the culture is clear, you're under feeding.
