Well starting to wonder what is normal for top off water for everyone here. I have a 110 gallon tank with open top and 30 gallon sump. Everyday I add 4 2 qt pitchers of rodi water to it to get back where it was. Is this a lot or am I just freaking for nothing. This is a normal thing no leaks. I have a lot of water movement which I like.

My 40B and 29G sump uses about 5 gallons a week(more in the spring and summer if I don't run the central air)...I have an old 5 gallon salt bucket I use for an ATO and I have to refill it usually every 7-8 days...So Id say yours is about normal on a tank that size

In the winter I loose about 2+ gallons a day (120G + 40b sump)

Your fine I have a 90 gallon with a 40 gallon sump I go through three gallons a day. A lot of factors come into play with the evaporation like the surface agitation of the water and other things.

I have a 55 gallon and probably lose a little more than a gallon a day

Agreed. You are fine. An open top and lots of water movement will cause a ton of evaporation. A built in humidifier for your home!

Thank you. Just thinking yesterday this is getting old. Would love to get an ATo unit. Then I read about controllers. How computer friendly do you have to be. I hate computers.

A container and a float valve make a wonderful ATO. You will wonder how you lived without one if you add an ATO.

Here is a link to one that I built.

All you need is a container, float switch( or two), and an air pump...mine was fairly simple...no computers involved, I also subscribe to the KISS method on doing things so I don't worry as much

I figured out about how much evaporation occurs each day then just used an aqua lifter pump on a digital timer to pump in how ever much I need per day. No float switches = fail safe.
