I received a group of about 12 anthiases from Indonesia some months ago. They were supposed to be Pseudanthias squamipinnis and all female. The plan was to let them sort out who were to be the male of the group. Now it seems like 4 or 5 of out about 10 remaining have turned male, at least they have a very elongated dorsal spine and are quite aggressive towards other conspecies. They also seem to be somewhat paler in coloration than the remaining fish. Is this common? My tank is about 400 gallons (1400 liters).

All of the fish also have red blots on their pectoral fins. Are these really P. squamipinnis or some other anthias?

Picture of one of the assumed males. The red dot (which is found on all of them) is clearly shown.
