I've got a couple of spots that I'd like to thread 1" pipes I've done this with metal pipe in the past. However, the tools I've got available aren't large enough for 1" pipe.

All of the threading tools I'm finding seem really expensive. I assume this is because they're designed for metal pipe. Spending $80 seemed a little silly when the alternative is a handful of $0.50 fittings. I was hoping someone knew of some cheaper tools for PVC that they could direct me to.

Only reason to thread PVC is to add odd small (less than 1/2" pipe fittings) in unusual places for making reactors and such, but even that can be done in most cases with the right fittings for a more secure connection. If your "tapping" a larger pipe they even make saddle fittings that don't require you to cut anything. You'd end up with a very weak conection trying to thread a 1" PVC Pipe. Tapping anything your self over 3/8" in pvc is a waste of effort and not the best solution IMO.

you could always buy a 1" black iron female fitting and thread it onto the PVC pipe...aside from that i would prefer to use a union and glue joints over threaded ones...
