Never seen it but the depth might suck for general maintenance. I do like shallow tanks though. It's probably generally used for frag tanks

Personally, I love wide shallow tanks. As long as you go BB or shallow sand, that's plenty of height. Keep in mind that if you do use sand, especially small grain sand, flow will be a challenge without creating sand storms.

It will save you money on rock for aquascaping. At 4' square, you can so some really cool things, and having a shallow height makes it easier to create taller structures with less rock.

If I had room for a tank like that, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

yeah that's how I feel, I love the idea of it but I don't want to invest in it and then not be happy with it. probably would be a hard tank to get rid of locally. I would want to do about an inch or two of sand though. I'm a sucker for keeping the ocean, the ocean...haha

and really it's only slightly shorter then a standard 55 gallon. ya know?

sounds like a lobster tank. I think it would be cool-and would make a great lookdown reef.

I'd go for something like tropic eden reef flakes, and keep it to an inch. It holds up to flow very well.

One consideration is the stand. Could you get it in the door?

I would just build my own stand so that part wouldn't be a problem. I'm just worried in the long term for fish like tangs if I ever wanted to get one. would that be a legit home for them?

+1, also be easier to tinker with if you're the type to always get your elbow wet. Also consider a taller stand.

and with that width, def only one side against the wall! Would be bad as can if it were in the middle of a room with 360 viewing!

16 sq ft? Yeah, that'd be more than enough for small and medium tangs. I'd imagine even some tangs that need 6' tanks would be happy with such immense floor space.

I havea 40x40x17 pentagon and it is a love/hate thing. Some advice if you get it, make sure you can get to three sides or you will not be able to reach everything.
