I have a wrasse in a 90 gallon corner tank that is CONSISTENTLY buried in my substrate (crushed coral). He disappears for days. I only see my tank either early in the morning or later at night when the light is on for feedings. Do you think he comes out during the day when it is dark and hides when the light is on?

Do your fish have enough caves to hide in? Also what is your ammonia at?

I have 100 lbs of live rock offering able hiding places. The only other fish that hides is my convict blenny. My ammonia has always been zero. Have not checked it in about 3-4 weeks. I will check it tonight.

What are the other tank mates? Someone may be harassing it which would explain it's odd behavior.

two clowns, rabbit foxface, kaudern cardinal, convict blenny, blue/green chromis, royal gamma basslet. The wrasse is one of the biggest fish in the tank and I never noticed any aggressive behavior?

Are you sure the foxface isn't going after it? I had a foxface that killed a yellow watchman goby.

I'm not positive, but I have not seen the foxface (which is the biggest fish in the tank) show any aggression toward other fish. I don't know how the wrasse is eating or staying alive?

Often times with burying wrasses their circadian rhythm needs to sync with our time.

Also if it is undergoing sex change it will spend more than usual amount of time buried.

Disease or parasites in the tank will cause it to bury more often too.
