Assuming that surface area is more important than gallonage, should i go with a 48x20x20 blau or a 30x30x24 marineland cube to replace my old and scratched 92 g corner bow. the tank has a powder blue, tomini, 2 clowns and 3 chromis... thanks for the help...

I decided to build up a 120g, 48 x 24 x 24. (used to have a 150, 72 x 18 x 28 (or 30 I forget)

My humble opinion is:

Marineland++: I like their tanks, and the black silicone looks really good to me. Some people do complain about their overflows though.

Cube: I ran with a cube for two years and tried everything and just could not get the flow right. At one time had 5 power heads all over it and at another two mp10's but still no matter how I placed them I had dead areas (signified by that red film algae that only grows in areas of zero flow). Plus the tank is too small for your tang.

One last note on cubes when aquascaping they follow their own rules. You basically only have one rock structure. Though some people have made extremely beautiful aquascapes in cubes no doubt, it takes talent.

I would think the length would be more important to you based on your fish.

Agreed.. Length would be important to consider seeing how you already have a powder blue.
My question to you is.. Do you have the budget for custom built tank or are you (like me) stuck with the affordable prebuilt tanks?

If your looking to stay with around the same volume you might want to consider song of the longer sallow custom builds that have been popping up on here. There are some amazing 90-100 gallon 5-6ft tanks that I have seen lately.
