Scored a long tentacle plate (not anemone) for a decent price at a lfs. I know from researching these are hard to keep alive for extended period of time so please drop me a pointer or two. Mine is about 8 inches across when fully extended. Whatd you feed yours..lighting..flow etc.?
Thanks allall

I've had this one about a year and a half. I believe they are suppose to be on the sand, but I've got mine high up on the rock (right side). Moderate water flow, high lighting. I feed it a piece of squid once a week.

I got one of those boxing day. Mines on the bottom of the tank on the substrate with moderate water flow and pretty high light. I don't really feed it much of anything and it looks to be in excellent condition. I was under the impression that these corals were one of the more hardy ones to keep provided you keep your tank in top condition which is something any committed reef keeper will do anyway. Supra400hpt, when you feed directly does it take it with no trouble?? I've never directly fed mine.

It reacts immediately when I feed it. I give it a piece of squid about 1" x 1/2". Seems to like mysis also if I target feed it. I pretty much stick to a routine of a piece of squid to the plate, the bubble and a serpeant star every Sunday night. Every night I broadcast feed the tank with mysis or a blended squid mixture so I image it gets a little from that also.

I had this one for about 4 or 5 years. Very undemanding coral IME. It was in a 60 gallon breeder tank. The lighting consisted of 4, 48" VHO bulbs. (2 actinic, 2 50/50) The flow was moderate, and I would feed it a small piece of shrimp from the supermarket about once every 10-14 days or so.

I have some regular shrimp here, maybe I'll try a piece and see what it does.

Make sure they are uncooked and fresh.

They or it was uncooked and raw, I only gave a small piece in case it refused and went unnoticed if it floated away, much to my surprise it's reaction was instant, touched the tentacles with it and a few seconds later it was pulled in. It must be enjoying it's meal, normally when the lights go out for the night the corals retract but the plate coral is still fully inflated.

Doesn't uncooked usually mean it's raw, it's late, I don't know what I'm saying.

Guess mine is about 7" across when extended. I've had no problem with it. Seems easy to take care of.

mine was 6" extended, had it for 5 months before it died :/ it started receding and just completely died, I thnk my nitrates spiked for a time and killed it. but I originally had it on the ground but then I had it on top of the rock, but it would get knocked over a lot :/

I recently purchased a large long tentacle plate coral. I would say it is 10-14" across when fully open and its tentacles are 6-8 inches. So far it is doing great. Has anybody else had success with a long tentacle plate coral?
Here is a picture and video of mine:

That looks really cool, has it never moved on you? Mine liked to move, but I imagine it may of been from not finding a spot it liked.
I've had two, one died (possibly because I didn't spot feed it enough? based on research), second is still thriving in my older brothers tank which I know he doesn't bother feeding.. It outgrew my 20g otherwise I would have kept it, they are very cool corals.

The long tentacle plate coral has only been in my care for a week and has not moved yet. Each day it continues to expand. This coral is quickly becoming one of my favorites!
Thanks joshky
