I'm looking for a good but most importantly, a quiet skimmer that's rated for about 200-300 gallons.. Any ideas/input?

I wouldn't want to spend over $500-$600...

I have a super reef octopus 5000 on mine. Works like a champ and quiet after adding an elbow to the discharge. Right in your price range too. In fact, depending on your bio load, a sro3000 might do the trick.

At that price point I would look at the Aquamaxx cone in sump series skimmer. I have the sicce pump on my skimmer and it is silent.

the dc pump skimmers are supposed to be really silent even more so than the traditional ac power pumps, plus you can dial them up or down

Anyone have a Reef Octopus Diablo XS 250 Protein Skimmer? Any pros/cons with it? Is it quiet?

I am researching them as well. Let me know what you find. I have a 75 gal with 40 gal sump.
