I've had some nuclear green zoas closed for two months I brush them of now and then so no algae consumes them, well there growing heads while closed what's going on? Why won't they open?

We need more information. Tank size, lighting, all water parameters.

If you find out let me know and I'll right a book and make lots of money! :D I've seen the same thing over the years. My GUESS has been the zoas are getting enough light and able to absorb enough ammonium, nitrates and phosphates for their symbionts without opening up.

I've had this happen due to high light with radion gen 2's at 85% and the zoas halfway up the tank! lowered the lights down to 55%... Bam! Zoa colonies opened up 3x as big as I remembered. It's really crazy how fast they grew

I'm guessing its light I have 2 led fixtures 36" in lenth on a 34" long 36g bowfront. A total of 48 3w leds over this tank I can't even get shade in this tank I might need a dimmer lol...my sps seem happy!

Same has happened to me. Had a colony of 5 yellow jackets that grew to 30 without opening......ever, lol!
